Can you teach an old hound dog new tricks? Will Elvis Presley finally edge out the Beatles for the most No. 1 hits in the United Kingdom? The record is currently tied at Elvis 17, Beatles 17. May this finally put to rest the long-standing dispute, "Elvis or The Beatles?"
A dance remix of A Little Less Conversation by Amsterdam-based DJ and producer JXL, which includes a minute-long electronic introduction, new rhythms and beats, dance loops and techno tracks, is expected to top the British charts this week. The remix, which was created for a Nike commercial, and approved by Elvis' estate, for the 2002 World Cup soccer tournament, sold 67,000 copies on its first day, which is more than last week's No. 1 song sold during the entire week prior. The single is also expected to hit No. 1 in the US with a scheduled release date of June 25.
Elvis' movies, and their accompanying soundtracks, are a source of much debate concerning artistic integrity, but a high percentage of The Beatles' movies should also spark such debates. For better or for worse, Elvis' foray onto the silver screen and subsequent departure 33 films later (including 2 documentaries) marked two major turning points in his career.
The original version of A Little Less Conversation peaked at No. 69 on the US singles charts in 1968 and never charted in the UK.

Who's makin' dirty dishes with you?Famously known as "The Master of the Telecaster," Albert Collins represents one of the most difficult to copy styles of blues guitar, largely due to his trademark use of non-standard tuning, capos and barefinger-plucking.
Collins' preoccupation with sub-zero temperatures as manifested in the album titles "The Iceman," "Defrost," "Frosty," "Sno-Cone," "Cold Snap," "Don't Lose Your Cool," "Ice Pickin'," "Frostbite" and "Molten Ice" combined with his "icy" tones also earned him the nickname "The Iceman."
In Too Many Dirty Dishes, Albert comes home from a long, hard day at work to find that his wife, who has seemingly gone out for the evening, has spent the day entertaining and left behind telltale evidence which poor Albert has to clean up. It's enough to give a man the blues!
Those who follow 80's movies and are less familiar with the blues may recognize Albert Collins from Adventures in Babysitting, starring Elizabeth Shue, from the blues club scene.
Collins passed away in 1993 at the age of 61. The number of dirty dishes he left unwashed in his sink is unknown.

Will that be Smoking or Non-Smoking?Tex Ritter doesn't care whether or not you smoke, and he's not even so sure that smoking is bad for you, he's smoked 'em all his life and he ain't dead yet (of course, this was at the time he recorded the song, Tex went on up to Hill-Billy Heaven in 1974), but he does know that smokers choose the most inopportune times to light up.
Tex, who first took to the entertainment world as a Broadway stage actor, is perhaps best known for the title track to the Academy Award winning western film "High Noon" starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, his appearance in 85 films including Song of the Gringo, or for being the father of John Ritter, a.k.a. Jack Tripper of TV's "Three's Company."

It's not what you have on, it's what you have not. What could be more synonymous with summer than the beach? Jonathan says, "The beach be one of the best things we got."
Jonathan Richman, of recent notoriety as the singer/songwriter of "There's Something About Mary" once again exercises his lyrical prowess in this fun-loving song with references to "cruddy sugar lemonade" and "see who's got a hairy chest."
This song captures the essence of frolicking in the sand on a hot summer's day.
Don't forget the sunscreen!

This ain't the twist or the bugaloo...Dee Dee left the Ramones in 1989 shortly after launching his solo career as Dee Dee King.
This is the first track from his first full length album "Standing in the Spotlight."
I had this album for many months before I listened to it. Having already heard his first Dee Dee King 12"- single release of Funky Man, I was in no hurry to venture into the new musical stylings of Dee Dee King.
The album itself is a well-balanced mix of Ramones-style rock songs, ballads and Dee Dee's unique interpretation of Hip Hop.
In the end I'm glad I bought it and eventually got the vinyl sleeve signed by the Funky Man himself. He even gave me a little smile at the autograph signing, at which the Ramones were notorious for appearing disinterested.
