Seems Like Just The Other Day

Though we know an event occured a long time ago, sometimes the memory remains so clear that the passing of time catches us off guard.
This song is available on:

I remember being in grade school and an hour of class seeming like an eternity.

Now, it takes me at least an hour to do anything, and even then it's not long enough.

Summer vacation, though it seemed like it would never arrive, eventually would, and three months out of school was a whole lifetime of enjoyment.

Now, three months and three mortgage payments have gone by with little notice.

Willie Nelson's Funny How Time Slips Away addresses the unique passage of time when one runs into a past love.

Willie Nelson wrote Funny How Time Slips Away in 1961. The song has received numerous chart positions by a plethora of artists including Billie Walker (#23), Tom Jones, Brenda Lee, Jimmy Elledge (#22), Faron Young, Elvis Presley, Joe Hinton (#13), W.C. Clark, Johnny Tillotson (# 50), Ricky Nelson, Dave Matthews, Dorothy Moore (# 58), Bryan Ferry, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Spinners (#67), Ray Price, Narvel Felts (#12), Jim Nabors, Junior Parker, and, of course, Willie Nelson (#41).

Although the album failed to chart, it did not fail to attract attention.

Kristofferson co-wrote Me And Bobby McGee with Fred Foster and Roger Miller's version of the song peaked in the country Top 20 in August 1969 while Janis Joplin's version reached number one on the pop charts shortly after her death in 1970.

Ray Price recorded For The Good Times soon after its release and it went to number one of the country charts.

Kristofferson introduced Price when Price was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1996. Kristofferson described Price as "the living link between the music of Hank Williams and the country music of today." For The Good Times earned Price a Grammy in 1970 and was named among the top songs of the 20th Century. It remains one of the best-selling country singles ever.

Other songs to be covered from the "Kristofferson" album and to reach number one status are "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" by Johnny Cash and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" by Sammi Smith. "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" also won the Country Music Association's Song of the Year award for 1970.

Other artists to release a version of For The Good Times are Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Eddy Arnold, Ferlin Husky, Jim Reeves, Aaron Neville, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Al Green, Crystal Gayle, Englebert Humperdink, Tennessee Ernie Ford, "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers, Perry Como and Bobby Bare.
