Invisible Airwaves Crackle With Life
During the late 70s and through the mid 80s the FM radio station CFNY 102.1 Toronto was known as The Spirit Of Radio.
This song is available on:

The station received notoriety for not following playlists, but rather for allowing the disc jockeys to play music they liked.

It was a huge hit with fans who did not wish to be spoon fed hits by the music industry.

Proving that all good things come to an end, The Spirit Of Radio eventually succumbed to financial pressure, despite listener protest and petition.

Today The Spirit Of Radio is known as "Edge 102" and is basically your run-of-the-mill "New Music" radio station, subscribing to a "proper marketing approach."

Canadian band Rush, known for "philosophical" lyrics and Geddy Lee, hero to rock bass players everywhere, released The Spirit Of Radio in 1980 on their eighth album, "Permanent Waves." The song, written by drummer Neil Peart, was inspired by CFNY.
