Born and raised in Prattville, Alabama, Pickett moved to Memphis, Tennessee, after a two year stint with the Detroit-based R&B group, The Falcons. In Memphis, he signed with Stax Records and began to use Booker T And The MG's as a backup group.
Although he never had a number one single, Wilson Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
